heliport license

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has simplified the process for the grant of Heliport License. Now the applications for NOC/Clearance to five external organizations can be routed through a single tab in the applicant’s eGCA profile.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) grants Heliport License/ Operational Authorization to the heliports at the surface level as well as at elevated /rooftop of the buildings in compliance with Aircraft Rules and the relevant Civil Aviation Requirements (CARs). Applicants desirous of obtaining a license/ authorization are required to submit an online application to DGCA through the eGCA portal.

Earlier, before submitting the online applications, applicants were required to apply to the following five organizations through online/ physical mode to obtain NOC/Clearance:

1. Ministry of Home

2. Ministry of Defence

3. Ministry of Environment and Forest

4. Airport Authority of India

5. Local Administration

The above process has now been simplified and a separate tab has been provided in the applicant’s eGCA profile. This has simplified the process for the applicants, and they can now apply for NOC/Clearances through a single window provided on the eGCA portal.

Veendum Chila Veettukaryangal

Beautifully emotional and sensitive Malayalam movie “Veendum Chila Veettukaryangal” (1999), directed by Sathyan Anthikad and starring Jayaram, Samyuktha Varma, Thilakan, KPAC Lalitha among others.

Its a growing up story of Roy Thomas (Jayaram) who is the son of Kochuthoma (Thilakan) both of whom are amateur theatre artists and have a local troupe going along. Roy Thomas doesn’t take life seriously and hardly earns any money.

But when he meets Bhavana (Samyuktha Varma) he falls heads over heels in love with her and marries her. All hell breaks loose as Roy Thomas is a Christian and Bhavana is a Hindu. Kochuthoma disowns him and throws him out of the house.

Upon being thrown at the dead end and no job in sight in the acting department, Roy Thomas goes back to his schooling degree of automobile engineering and works in a car mechanic shop.

Kochuthoma’s family is further thrown into turmoil when his eldest son Paul Thomas (Siddique) is arrested on fraud charges and the money that the old man had kept for his daughter’s marriage is all gone.

Both Thilakan and KPAC Lalitha have done magnificent roles while Jayaram and Samyukta Varma are passable. The minor character actors — Nedumudi Venu, Oduvil Unnikrishnan, Mamukoyya, are all superb. Good movie with a nice tight script, some powerful dialogues and subtle messaging. IMDB 5/10

Pavithram

What a resoundingly beautiful and heart breaking movie “Pavithram” (1994) directed by T.K. Rajeev Kumar and starring Mohanlal, Sreenivasan, Shobana, Thilakan, KPAC Lalitha, Innocent, Nedumudi Venu, Vinduja Menon among others.

Its a story of a possessive love of an elder brother with his kid sister which is almost 30 years age difference. Unnikrishnan’s (Mohanlal) parents Srividya and Thilakan beget a child at almost retirement age. Unni has an elder brother Dr. Ramakrishnan (Sreenivasan) who lives in the city.

Srividya dies during the childbirth and Thilakan leaves the household upon being reprimanded severely by his son Unni. Unni has a love interest in Meera (Shobana in a breathtakingly beautiful role) but that love peters out when her father asks him to leave her after the birth of his young sister.

Too much of complications arise when the kid grows up and wants to study in college and become modern. She faces resistance from Unni who is severely protective of her and chides her all the time.

Mohanlal has acted magnificently for which he won Filmfare award for best actor. Sreenivasan in a mature, subdued role, Shobana like a breath of fresh air and all the character actors acting pitch perfect in their roles, this is a masterpiece of a film.

The best part of the movie is the outstanding cinematography by Santosh Sivan. Every frame in the movie is beautifully captured with lights, shadow, camera work, photography all superbly done. IMDB 8/10

Stalking Point

Engrossing war time novel of subterfuge and deception by Duncan Kyle in “Stalking Point”.

Zoll relocates to America under a new name Ernie Miller, an ace pilot. During World War II action, which is two decades hence, someone finds out his true identity and uses him to carry out a dangerous mission to assassinate both Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt.

Thooval Kottaram

Beautifully sensitive award winning Malayalam movie “Thooval Kottaram” (1996), directed by Sathyan Anthikad and starring Jayaram, Sukanya, Dileep among others.

Mohan Poduval (Jayaram) is a bright lawyer, but he also plays the chenda, which is a musical instrument, at temple festivals. He has a romantic thing going on with Sujatha (Sukanya) who is a dance teacher .

Jayaram despite being a lawyer is perennially bankrupt, which is typical of the malayalam movies of those days. His brother Dileep wants to be a doctor, for which fees are required. His sister has married a police inspector and wants more from the family.

When Devaprabha (Manju Warrier) comes to the village to recuperate from depression following the death of her brother at her hands while she was driving the car, a romantic triangle ensues. But Jayaram is unwilling to let go of Sukanya.

Tensions arise between the three until it climaxes to a big showdown and an eventual let up. Sukanya has done a superb role as the docile girl and Jayaram is very good and so is Murali the always dependable actor. The character actors have all done good roles. The second half of the movie is better as it captures the tension and conflicts quite well. IMDB 5/10

Irattakuttikalude Achan

Beautifully sensitive Malayalam movie “Irattakuttikalude Achan” (1997) directed by Sathyan Anthikad and starring Jayaram, Manju Warrier, Murali among others.

Rajeevan (Jayaram) marries a rich girl (Anupama) Manju Warrier, but he is out of means. The first part of the movie is the fight with the parents and all, it meanders just like that.

Anupama becomes pregnant and in the same hall is another woman, Urmila Unni who has come for her 4th pregnancy, the previous three ones being miscarriage. Her husband Venu (Murali) is distraught but calm.

Anupama delivers twins and Urmila again miscarries. The gyneac suggests to Rajeevan to give one of his twins to Venu. Rajeevan fights it but agrees on emotional grounds.

When the wife comes to know of her second child, all hell breaks loose and Rajeevan goes berserk. He tries to kidnap and ends up in police lock up. On the one side Venu tries to negotiate and mediate and threaten but he also knows its on his wrong side.

Desperate, Rajeevan loses his wife, child and job and wanders around aimlessly. Jayaram has delivered an outstanding performance as the emotionally wrecked husband and father. I am surprised he has not been bestowed any award for this movie. Murali again acts superbly, very mature, and composed in his role. Masterful screenplay by Sreenivasan and deft handling by Sathyan Anthikad. Must watch movie for Jayaram and Murali. IMDB 6/10

Life before internet

Daily writing prompt
Do you remember life before the internet?

Oh yes, I belong to that generation that has experienced life before internet. Reading newspapers and magazines, listening to radio (including short wave radio), using mechanical typewriters, old fashioned phones, remembering many phone numbers, watching black and white television (when it came in 1982), having family get togethers without any of us being glued to the mobiles, playing real games on the ground (not the mobile games) and getting hurt and not feeling bad about it all. Going to the theatre once in a while with family or friends and feeling in awe watching movies on the big screen. That was life.
